Verizon Will Rollout Shared Data Plans This Summer

Shared Data Plans Verizon WirelessToday Verizon Wireless has confirmed that they intend to rollout a new service this summer that will allow families to utilize a single data plan instead of multiple.

Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam, has mentioned shared data plans in the past and has even previously stated that the service will be available by the end of this year.

This morning, during a conference call to discuss the company’s first-qaurter earnings, McAdam revealed that Verizon customers will be able to opt in to shared data plans by the middle of this summer.

In theory, shared data plans should simplify customers’ bills by unifying what was once multiple separate services into one. Additionally, data won’t be “wasted”. For example, let’s say that there are three people on one policy and they each have their own data plans. In any typical month, two out of these three people go over their data cap, but one doesn’t. With the new shared data plans, individuals who consume more data will be able to go over their typical limit by extending into “left over” data that would normally go unused by another member on the same plan.

Unfortunately, a pricing structure is yet to be announced; stay tuned for additional coverage on Verizon’s share data plans.
