Official iPad 3 Display Worthy Of Being Called “Retina” With A Resolution Of 2048×1536

Retina iPad 3

MacRumors claims to have a leaked iPad 3 HD Retina displays in their possession – a similar Retina display to the one that iLab confirmed fits with an alleged iPad 3 back piece.

When MacRumors’ supposed iPad 3 display was compared to an iPad 2 display, under a microscope, it was discovered that the leaked display has 4 times the pixel density as the iPad 2′s display or twice the resolution vertically and horizontally. With 4 times the number of pixels per inch as the iPad 2′s display, it can be inferred that the resolution of the iPad 3′s display will be 2,048-by-1,536:

MacRumors has now been able to obtain one of these iPad 3 displays and examine it under a microscope in an effort to determine whether it is indeed an ultra-high resolution Retina display. Physically, the purported iPad 3 display is the same size as the current iPad 1 and iPad 2 display at 9.7″ in diagonal, and looks quite similar to the naked eye.

However, when comparing the iPad 3 display to one from an iPad 2 under a microscope, the difference in resolutions becomes readily apparent, with the iPad 3 display’s pixels appearing to be one-quarter the size of those on the iPad 2.

We’re only a few short weeks away from the iPad 3′s rumored March unveiling event and the anticipation couldn’t be higher. While the typical Retina display and A6 processor rumors are widely acknowledged, Apple could still through in some unexpected surprises. With that said, stay tuned  for full iPad 3 coverage.
