Jailbreak iOS 6 GM (Gold Masters) on iPhone 4, 3GS and iPod touch 4th-Gen

Yesterday, following the September iPhone 5, iOS 6, iPod touch 5th-generation and iPod nano media event, Apple released iOS 6 GM (Gold Master) seed to developers. While non-Apple developers can still restore to the new 6.0 Golden Master edition, we won’t be covering it in this tutorial – it’s simply a Jailbreak guide.

Supported iOS 6.0 GM devices:

  • iPhone 4 (GSM and CDMA models)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod touch 4G (fourth-generation)

Dev Downloads:

How to Jailbreak iOS 6 Gold Master (GM) seed :

1. Download the latest developer edition of Redsn0w from the above download section and run it. If you’re on Windows 7 or Vista, right click, set compatibility mode to Windows XP service pack 2 and run it as an administrator.

2. Select the Extras option, click Select IPSW and browse for your iOS 6 GM firmware (available for download from Apple’s Developer portal).

3. Ensure that the option to install SSH is checked by default and click next.

4. Navigate back to the main screen, click Jailbreak and enter DFU mode by following these easy steps to automatically bypass the information screen and begin the Jailbreaking process:

  • Press the home and power buttons together for a total of ten seconds.
  • Once ten seconds has passed, release the power button and continue to hold the home button for an additional fifteen seconds.

5. Wait for your iDevice to finish and reboot (the video shows the process in its entirety). Once the reboot is complete, close Redsn0w and reopen it.

6. We’ll need to select the GM seed again, navigate to Extras, click Select IPSW and browse for the iOS 6 Gold Master firmware.

7. After the build is successfully identified, click Ok to the prompt, select the Just boot option and enter DFU mode (refer back to the fourth step).

Congratulations, you have successfully Jailbroken iOS 6 GM! Keep in mind that this is a tethered Jailbreak tutorial, which means you’ll have to repeat steps five through eight every time your device needs to reboot. Furthermore, unfortunately, due to incompatibilities, the iPhone Dev Team wasn’t able to include support for Cydia in this release. Remember, iOS 6 will officially be released to the public on September 19th. By that time, hopefully the Dev Team will release an updated version of Redsn0w with Cydia support. Stay tuned for complete and in-depth iOS 6 Jailbreak tutorials.
