iPhone 4S And iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak Update: Unsigned Code Reportedly Running On The iPhone 4S

On January 11th planetbeing (a highly respected Jailbreaker that’s part of the “Super Dev Team” working on the A5 iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak) broke his 513 days of silence on Twitter by announcing that they “made it out of the sandbox with Saurik’s invaluable help“.

Today planetbeing made another significant announcement on Twitter when he informed the Jailbreak community that he has successfully managed to get unsigned code running on his iPhone 4S.

However, before you get too excited, you should take into account what planetbeing said in response to a frustrated follower:

I was working on it every second I was awake yesterday. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. No one said it’d be quick.

But, with the significant progress that’s been made over the past two weeks (and pod2g‘s most recent blog post), it’s possible that we won’t have to wait much longer until an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 untethered Jailbreak utility is publicly released. As usual, there isn’t an estimated release date so stay tuned for more updates related to the status of the Untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (A5) Jailbreak!

Good stuff, considering that I lost my jailbreak on my 4.3.3 iPad 2 two weeks ago. I updated
when pod2g said to… O well, at the very least we seem closer to a jailbreak than before.
