iOS 7 Reportedly On Release Schedule, As OS X Engineers Aid In Development

iOS 7 Release Date ScheduleRoughly a month ago, on April 3rd, John Gruber from Daring Fireball shared information pertaining to iOS 7. In particular, Gruber mentioned that, not only was Apple behind scheduled on development for iOS 7, but that engineers who were focused on developing the next major OS X installment (10.9) were temporarily reassigned to assist in the timely completion of iOS 7. Today, we have additional confirmation that such a reassignment may have taken place.

In typical fashion, Jim Dalrymple from The Loop (an Apple-oriented journalist who’s widely known for his one-word confirmations on rumors) said the following with regard to iOS 7 being given priority over OS 10.9:

Yep.

Although unfortunate, a similar situation occurred in years past when Apple realized they were falling behind. Engineers who were in charge of developing and perfecting OS X Leopard were pulled off the job to focus all efforts on the original iPhone, which of course went on to become a huge success in 2007

Furthermore, yesterday, unnamed Apple sources informed AllThingsD that Apple has been “borrowing” engineers from the OS X team, effectively ensuring that iOS 7 “will ship on time”. However, with that said, how can a product (in this case a software release) “ship on time” if it hasn’t even been announced? It’s likely the report was referring to the fall release timeframe Apple established upon releasing iOS 5 to the public in October of 2011.

With this year’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) scheduled to take place next month, and with Jonathan Ive in charge of the company’s software development following last year’s corporate restructuring, iOS 7 is shaping up to not only be the biggest announcement from Apple next month, but also one of the mostly highly anticipated announcements from the company since the unveiling of the original iPad. Stay tuned for complete coverage on iOS 7, OS 10.9 and WWDC 2013.
