iOS 6.1.3 Will Likely Patch The Evasi0n Jailbreak, New Untethered Solution In Development?

Jailbreak 6.1.3 untethered Evasi0nAccording to a new report from Forbes that interviews one of the key member of the evad3rs, David Wang (more commonly known as planetbeing in the Jailbreak community), iOS 6.1.3 will likely patch the Untethered evasi0n iOS 6 through 6.1.2 Jailbreak. Following Apple’s recent developer release of iOS 6.1.3 beta 2, planetbeing tested the update’s compatibility with evasi0n and regrettably discovered that it patches one of the five key exploits utilized.

‘If one of the vulnerabilities doesn’t work, evasi0n doesn’t work,’ he says. ‘We could replace that part with a different vulnerability, but [Apple] will probably fix most if not all of the bugs we’ve used when 6.1.3 comes out’.

In spite of the record-high number of iOS devices Jailbroken using evasi0n, Apple has yet to patch the Jailbreak in their past two iOS updates since evasi0n’s release, which is likely due to the the low security threat the utility poses. Similarly, the Absinthe Jailbreak tool from the Chronic Dev Team went un-patched from its release for iOS 5.1.1 until Apple issued iOS 6 months later.

Although evasi0n will inevitably be patched by Apple with the release of 6.1.3, evasi0n’s moment of glory isn’t over yet. Planetbeing predicts that, based on Apple’s typical beta release schedule, it may take Apple another month to prepare iOS 6.1.3 for a public release.

While this is certainly bad news for Jailbreak enthusiasts everywhere, planetbeing suggests that the evad3rs are already preparing for another Jailbreak. “If they patch most of the bugs,” Wang stated, “Then we’re starting from scratch”. If a new Jailbreak is indeed in development, the members of the new Evad3rs Dev Team will undoubtedly hold off on updating evasi0n until Apple releases iOS 7. With that said, stay tuned for complete coverage on iOS 6.1.3 and future Jailbreak utilities.
