Apple Releases Updated iOS 5.1.1 (9B208) Build For iPhone 4 GSM, Incompatible With Absinthe

Yesterday, Friday May 25th, Apple released a new build of iOS 5.1.1 for GSM iPhone 4 owners after the Chronic Dev Team released Absinthe v2. Although the new version (9B208) was released over the older iOS 5.1.1 (9B206) firmware, either build is recognized by iTunes as the latest version.

Also, Apple has yet to comment on the new build regarding the changes over 5.1.1 (9B206) and why only the iPhone 4 GSM model received a revised version of 5.1.1.

Unfortunately, Absinthe cannot Jailbreak the iPhone 4 on the new build. However, the updated firmware wasn’t meant to patch Absinthe as it was reportedly compiled a day before the release of the new untethered Jailbreak utility.

If you find that your iPhone 4 is unable to be Jailbroken on 5.1.1, first confirm which build it’s running by going to Settings -> General -> About. For those of you who are on the newer version of 5.1.1, it’s possible to download the older build (here) and restore to it in iTunes after browsing for it (shift+left click restore on Windows or alt + left click restore on OS X).

As always, stay tuned for additional coverage on Apple, their iOS-devices and Jailbreaking!

I was having the same problem. Here is what I did. I restored my iPhone 4 (GSM) as a new device. Then jailbroke it, then added app sync 5.x from cydia. Then restored it from my last back up.
Just remember to backup ur device before you go through these steps.
It worked with me device; I hope it works with yours too.

Just restore your iPhone 4 with the old build of iOS 5.1.1. He has a link in the last paragraph. Then just restore it with that build.

I definitely confirm that absinthe does not work on 9B208. Tried many times. Had to restore with 9B206 to get it to work
