Apple Officially Releases iOS 6, Available For Immediate Download

As announced at last week’s media event, today, Apple released iOS 6 to the public. Customers with select iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models can update to the newest version of iOS one of two ways.

The first, and probably the easiest, method is through Apple’s over-the-air update feature, which is easily accessable through the Setting app – simply navigate to General, Software Update.

The second option for updating is simply through iTunes’ built-in “Check for Updates” option inside the iOS device overview menu.

Of course, iOS 6 was announced in June at Apple’s WWDC (world wide developers conference event) and introduces over 200 new features. Some of which include Apple’s replacement of Google maps with their own in-house mapping solution, improvements to Siri, deep Facebook integration, Apple’s new Passbook app and much more.

As previously mentioned, the update is available now for iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, third-generation iPad, iPad 2 and fourth-generation iPod touch users. Needless to say, iOS 6 will also ship pre-installed on both the iPhone 5 and the fifth-generation iPod touch. Stay tuned for complete coverage on Apple and iOS 6.
