An iOS 5.1.1 And 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak Utility Is Only Days Away

An iOS 5.1.1 And 5.1 Untethered Jailbreak Utility Is Only Days Away Since the release of iOS 5.1 in March and the newer release of 5.1.1, members of the Jailbreak community have been anxiously awaiting an untethered Jailbreak utility. Recently, pod2g’s updates have delivered many ups and downs pertaining to which devices will be supported and when it will actually be released.

Last time pod2g slightly hinted at a general timeframe for a utility, he informed his followers on the 10th that a “nice” and “user friendly tool” is still “weeks away”.

Today pod2g revealed that in actuality, the next untethered Jailbreak utility for iOS 5.1 and 5.1.1 should be released in a “matter of days” thanks to the contributions from planetbeing (@planetbeing) and Nikias Bassen (@pimskeks).

Jailbreak 5.1.1 almost released

At this point you’re probably wondering if your iOS-based device will be supported. Earlier this week, pod2g updated his blog to include a more current compatibility list.

While this is excellent news and an imminent release has been confirmed, unfortunately, there still isn’t a solid date – presumably to avoid users from overwhelming the servers. With that said, stay tuned for continuous coverage and a tutorial as soon as the iOS 5.1 and 5.1.1 untethered Jailbreak utility is made available.

  • Vayne55

I am currently running 5.1 on my iPhone 4S. Is it safe to update to iOS 5.1.1? I’m guessing that the released jailbreak utility will include 5.1.1, even though it’s a fresh iOS update…
Any thoughts Tanner, or anyone else?

I am currently on 5.0.1 and waiting for the new 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak to come out, how do i jailbreak from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 without losing any of my stuff, do i just jailbreak normally with the new software and it will get me to 5.1.1?

u can u have to write them down so you can downoad them again

      • TheCaseKid142

So i have to reset everything and then re install every thing??

  • yubert

is there a way to save the cydia apps and tweaks that i use so i don’t have to find them all again?

    • Jailpod

      Use APTBackup from cydia.

But for it to work you need to backup to iTunes (after opening app and backing up) and then after you restore, restore from that backup.

So it won’t work if you change iOS versions when you restore because you can’t restore to a backup of a different iOS version.

      • yubert

         that’s a shame :(
I will just have to write down all the packages

  • Jdylan64

    Is it for iphone 4s?

    • Tanner Marsh

As stated, yes, the iPhone 4S will be included in the upcoming Jailbreak.

    • KQuist

Yes it works on all devices except apple TV3. The iPad 2 wifi, R2 iPad 3 Global and AppleTV 2 all remain to be tested but according to pod2g they should work.
