Alleged Low-Cost iPhone’s Plastic Rear Shell Surfaces

Cheaper iPhone 5S LeakedEarlier this week, a case manufacturer by the name of Tactus publicized images of what was allegedly a case designed for Apple’s upcoming fifth-generation iPad. Sensibly, the case mirrored what rumors have suggested for some time, that the upcoming tablet is expected to feature a smaller, thinner and an iPad mini-esque design.

Today, the same company (Tactus) posted a new image of what’s said to be the rear casing of Apple’s rumored low-cost iPhone model that may launch later this year alongside the iPhone 5S. Similar to the iPad 5 case leak, today’s images align with rumors in the sense that the shell is manufactured from some type of plastic.

Furthermore, the report goes on to share a number of supposed details pertaining to the unannounced device, including that it could be powered by Apple’s A5 processor, feature a 5-megapixel rear camera and come in five color options (black, white, red, blue and yellow). Tactus also claims that the device will sport a 3.5-inch Retina display similar to Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, as opposed to the 4-inch Retina display found on the iPhone 5 like previous reports have suggested.

Also, in an attempt to give measurements for the shell, Tactus claims that the cheaper iPhone will measure at 0.4-0.6 mm thick, which obviously isn’t possible – the company likely misreported previous rumors that suggested the device will be approximately 0.4-0.6 mm thicker than the iPhone 5.

Finally, in a rather odd claim, Tactus states that the low-cost iPhone is scheduled to be released on October 15th with a price of $300. However, it’s best to put little stock in such details, as most sources for part leaks from Apple’s supply chain simply wouldn’t have access to Apple’s specific launch details.

Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to gauge the validity of the newly-leaked rear casing for Apple’s rumored cheaper iPhone. It’s entirely possible that such a part could have been created based entirely upon rumors that have been circulated through the blogosphere in recent months. Stay tuned for complete coverage on Apple and their future iOS-based devices.
